0008 - Asteroids (1979)

Played: Many times.
Played before: Yes
Heard of before: Yes
Time spent: In total many hours
Completed: Impossible since it's a high score chaser.
Mastered (0-100%): 40% I am not that good at this game.

Used platform: This was weird on mame, but I have played this before in good flash versions and in versions shipped with windows 3.11 at my neighbours place. I know that this is meant to be played in the arcade version with the vector display and everything, but such a cabinet is hard to find in operating condition.

Brief description: You control a triangular spaceship and have to defend yourself from asteroids that drift randomly around the screen. Clear the screen to advance to the next level. On top of the asteroids UFOs will occasionally drift in and mix things up.
Story: 5/10 No story, just the drive to survive.
Gameplay: 7/10 Filled with action and hectic movement, but at the same time making every game over your own fault. It's easy to just fire away, but if you choose to do so you'll quickly find yourself flooded by small asteroids.
Sound: 5/10 Ok sounds, nothing mindblowing.
Graphics: 8/10 The vector graphics are timeless and beautiful.

Epic win: Being saved by the UFO.
Epic fail: Getting picked off instantly by the UFO.
Moment of strongest impact: First time i saw the arcade version on a video. The vector display adds something special to the look of the game.

Overall: 75%
This is really a classic. I guess that's the bottom line.
